Suggested Body Piercing Aftercare
So you have a new body piercing?
Everybody is different, there is no standard heal time.
Some bleeding, swelling, and bruising is normal after getting pierced.
Generally we pierce with longer jewelry initially to allow for swelling. Downsizing to a properly fitted post/ring is important to ensure proper healing. We recommend checking back in 2-4 weeks for oral piercings and 6-8 weeks for everything else.
If you need your jewelry changed during the average healing time, make sure to have your jewelry changed by a qualified piercer so you don’t damage the healing tissue.
Leave jewelry in at all times during the healing phase. Removing it, even for a short period, can make reinsertion difficult or even impossible
Regularly checking the ends on your piercing is important to keep jewelry secure. Some of our ends are a pushpin style and some are threaded.
Never spin, pick or play with a healing piercing.
Avoid soaking your new piercing in any bodies of water during the healing process. (Bath tubs, lakes, rivers, etc.)
Limit any pressure on a healing piercing. Do your best to avoid sleeping directly on it, wearing clothes that put excess pressure and things like stethoscopes and ear buds may need to be avoided during healing..
A healing piercing is an open wound! No mouths or bodily fluids on or near a healing piercing
(no open mouth kissing, etc)
Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning or touching your piercing
Avoid antibacterial soap, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and petroleum based ointments.
Flush with pure saline, or soak a cotton swab in saline and gently swab to remove crusties, make sure to rinse with clean water afterwards.
Rinsing with warm water in the shower is also excellent to help soften and remove crusty matter.
Overly wet piercings can also cause issues. Drying by gently patting with gauze, disposable paper products, or even blow drying the area on a cool setting can help. Never reuse the same gauze, paper towel, etc.
Flush oral piercings 2-3 times a day with alcohol free, non whitening, fluoride free mouthwash.
If you suspect you have an infection, we advise you to see a doctor immediately.
Leave jewelry in the piercing until you see a doctor if possible. If removed it can seal bacteria inside your skin with no proper way to drain.
If you decide you do not want your piercing anymore, feel free to have any of our piercers remove the jewelry for you free of charge and continue cleaning as usual. Fees may apply for surface piercings.
